Founded in 1952, Our Lady of Prompt Succor School began with five classrooms serving 126 students alongside the newly established parish. As St. Bernard Parish continued to grow, so did the school. By 1963, OLPS had expanded to 27 classrooms and an enrollment of more than 1,300 students, becoming one of the area's leading Catholic elementary schools. Since its founding, OLPS has been dedicated to forming students spiritually, academically, and socially in a Christ-centered Catholic environment where faith, family, and knowledge remain at the heart of everything we do. Generations of families have entrusted OLPS with the education of their children, creating a proud tradition of excellence and community that continues today. In 1997, OLPS was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, a distinction honoring the school's commitment to outstanding academic achievement and educational excellence. Like the rest of St. Bernard Parish, OLPS faced unprecedented challenges following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The school community demonstrated remarkable resilience during the recovery, rebuilding not only its campus but also its spirit. As the only remaining Catholic school in St. Bernard Parish, OLPS welcomed students and families from the former St. Louise, St. Robert, and St. Mark schools, preserving the rich tradition of Catholic education within the parish. The years that followed marked a new chapter of growth and renewal with the construction of the state of the art Early Learning Center and Middle School Building, providing modern learning environments for future generations of students. OLPS also expanded the integration of technology into the curriculum, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world while remaining grounded in Catholic values. Today, Our Lady of Prompt Succor School serves nearly 500 students in Pre-K3 through 7th grade, welcoming families from throughout St. Bernard Parish and the greater New Orleans area. For the 2026–2027 school year, OLPS is proudly dually accredited through Cognia and Lumen, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement, academic excellence, and our Catholic identity. As we celebrate One Team. One Mission. Season 75., we honor the generations of students, families, faculty, staff, clergy, and alumni who have shaped Our Lady of Prompt Succor School. While our campus, programs, and enrollment have evolved over the decades, our mission remains unchanged: to provide a Christ-centered Catholic education that inspires students to grow in faith, knowledge, leadership, and service. Guided by our motto—Faith. Family. Knowledge.—we remain committed to preparing future generations to lead with integrity, compassion, and purpose.
